Job DetailsPatent Prosecution & Strategy
- Prepare and file domestic and international patent applications involving biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, medical devices, and related life sciences technologies.
- Manage all stages of the patent prosecution process before the USPTO and relevant foreign patent offices.
- Draft and respond to office actions, appeals, restriction requirements, and other patent office correspondence.
- Develop prosecution strategies designed to maximize patent protection, strengthen claim scope, and support client portfolio growth.
- Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, validity, and landscape analyses as needed.
- Advise clients regarding continuation, divisional, reissue, and international filing strategies.
Scientific and Legal Collaboration
- Work closely with inventors, scientists, researchers, clinicians, and product development teams to understand complex innovations.
- Translate sophisticated scientific concepts into clear, accurate, and effective patent applications and legal arguments.
- Evaluate experimental data, scientific literature, technical disclosures, and invention records.
- Collaborate with colleagues on cross-functional intellectual property matters, including litigation, licensing, due diligence, technology transfer, and commercialization.
- Assist clients in aligning patent strategy with clinical, regulatory, research, and commercial objectives.
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensing
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Active registration as a Patent Attorney with the USPTO.
- Active and in-good-standing license to practice law.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of patent prosecution experience, preferably focused on life sciences technologies.
- Demonstrated experience managing the full patent prosecution lifecycle, including drafting, filing, office action responses, examiner interviews, and portfolio strategy.
- Experience handling patent matters involving biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, diagnostics, medical devices, or related technologies.
Technical Background
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacology, Immunology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Strong understanding of scientific principles and developments within the life sciences industry.
- Ability to evaluate complex scientific data and communicate technical concepts clearly and accurately.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced scientific degree, including an MS, PhD, PharmD, or MD.
- Experience with international patent prosecution and global patent portfolio management.
- Experience working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, or research-based organizations.
- Familiarity with Hatch-Waxman matters, biologics, biosimilars, patent term extension, Orange Book listings, or regulatory exclusivity issues.
- Experience conducting intellectual property due diligence in connection with licensing, financing, mergers, acquisitions, or other transactions.
- Established relationships within the life sciences, academic research, or intellectual property communities.
- Prior experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams involving scientific, legal, regulatory, clinical, and business professionals.
